What Is DV

DV is short for Digital Video, which is captured frame by frame on a tape with the digital camcorder. Digital videos can be transferred and recognized by computer. To transfer DV footage to computer, you can use a firewire cable. Analog camcorders such as SVHS and Hi-8 devices must be run through an analog to digital converter (DAC) in order to be transferred to a computer.

DV videos are usually stored in AVI files and therefore people call it DV-AVI. Microsoft provides DV encoder and decoder filters for DirectShow only, and will not provide support for encoding or decoding DV video data for VfW.
